Research Interests
My research interests mainly lie in the area of medical anthropology and food anthropology. I have a biocultural approach to the population that I study. My doctoral research focuses on the changes that have taken place in India since its economic liberalization in the year 1991. For my doctoral research I have collected anthropometric and ethnographic data on rural and urban Deorukhe Brahmin mothers and daughters from the state of Maharashtra in Western India. Using my anthropometric data I compare the prevalence and risk of the appearance of Chronic Non-Communicable Diseases (CNCDs) among my rural and urban participants. My ethnographic data enables me to study shifting gender identities, appearance of new food categories, and the manner in which globalization and modernity is being navigated and experienced by the participants of my study.
